Are tablets the future of personal computing?

A week ago I gave into temptation and finally purchased an iPad. The device is quite amazing and very inspiring. First of all I love how touch screen interface works in more advanced apps like Keynote or Pages. On-screen keyboard works surprisingly well and I can type fast enough for my typical daily tasks. I really didn't expect that, but now I think tablets have the potential to surpass laptops and take the lead as a most commonly used computer type.
Now, a list of things I don't like about the iPad:
  • no multitasking - this one is really irritating and I hate the fact I can't switch back and forth between Skype and email. Thankfully, multitasking support for iPad is coming soon and it's not gonna be an issue anymore.
  • No Flash - I had no idea how big Flash is. My HTC Desire does a much better job regarding web compatibility than the iPad. Totally unexpected.
  • Apple's infamous vendor lock-in - it's unbelievably complicated to transfer any file to the device and from the device. Lack of standard mass-storage usb protocol is a huge disappointment.
  • Occasional lagginess - there are cases where my HTC Desire outperforms the iPad :)
  • A couple of other minor issues...
Overall I'm satisfied and very impressed with the device. I'm looking forward to Andoid tablets with similar specs. Very eager to check out Galaxy Tab, though I really dig iPad's 10" screen and 7" screen found in Samsung's tablet feels too small.

Posted from my iPad :)
